Taste of Taiwan

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to stretch my horizons and learn about Taiwanese cooking. It was a lot of fun learning about a few of their national dishes and of course taking advantage of the fabulous teas grown through out the island of Taiwan. They take their tea very seriously there, but recently they have incorporated it into a more whimsical, sweet concoction called "Bubble Tea" or "Pearl Milk Tea". It is ...

Apple Red, Racing Red, Pumpkin, Oh my!

It has been shown that in more difficult economic times, the use of color becomes a comfort, reflecting our need to break away from the bleak and the blah. This is not to say that Stainless Steel would ever be considered undesirable; indeed, 90% of Viking Range products ordered are Stainless Steel. It is beautiful, durable, works with any decor and appeals to most everyone, which is a good thing if you are trying to ...

Holiday App (not for your phone)

I'm a big fan of easy. Easy dinners, easy appetizers, easy entertaining. What can I say, I'm easy! Ironically, this time of year, many cooks place undue expcetations on themsleves for making "more involved" menus and foods. The reality is that most family and guests would rather have the host or hostest visiting with them rather than slaving away in the kitchen. I'm always loking for recipes that have less than 8 ingredients and ...

Top Ten Tools you should have in your Kitchen

I'm kind of a brat in that I have an abundance of kitchen tools. I have them stuffed into drawers, in containers on the counter, some in the hall closet, and I still have quite a few in boxes in the garage. I should probably pare down my equipment inventory. It's just that where some women will collect purses, or jewelry, or shoes (ok, i love shoes!) I mostly covet kitchen equipment, because, well, I'm kind of weird. The funny thing is, I ...

A Visit to Greenwood

Once every couple years I get the chance to travel back to Greenwood, Mississippi. Greenwood is a sleepy little southern town that sits on the Yazoo river and is considered the "Cotton Capital" of the South. It is also the place where, in the late 80's, Viking Range was born. Greenwood is where Viking founder Fred Carl, a native son, realized his dream of developing commercial style appliances and where today, most of the 15,000 SKUs ...

Asparagus, the Harbinger of Spring

I love this time of year when you start to see the lovely thin stalks of asparagus cropping up at farmer's markets and grocery stores alike. I use them in soups, risottos lasagnas, omlets, and salads. They are so versitile and easy to get along with that, I always buy an extra bunch just to have around.
Make your own Viking Experience

My showroom here at the Viking Experience is a Disney Land for adults interested in design and kitchen equipment. It is a veritable "E" ticket, for those of you over 40. For those of you under that age, it is still worth the price of a full ticket (which is actually free, but you need to make an appointment). Despite our industrial exterior and surroundings, our showroom is an oasis where kitchen dreams can come true, if only ...

Dessert on the Grill

Growing up with a father who liked to grill, I was blessed to have been the recipiet of many meals that were lovingly prepared on our outdoor grill. The items were familiar and comforting, but were by the same token, pretty standard fare i.e. hamburgers, hotdogs, flank steak, salmon (that was really gourmet). I am not that snob that looks down her nose at this type of food, in fact, I believe I was mostly first in line ...

Grilling Clean Up Tip

In the showroom and on the phone I get a lot of questions about cleaning the Viking Grills. I find it interesting that they don't necessarily want recipes or techniques (although they do sometimes), the number one question I get is: How do I clean my Grill? It seems like a daunting task because, lets face it, our grills are big and beefy and they have parts and a lot of BTU's. Even ...
